My Sunburnt Country

I Love My Sunburnt Country

Rhonda first visited Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre in 2018 during the drought and was fascinated with the abstract shapes and patterns that the dried salt made. That when the flooding rains from Queensland hit hard in the summer of 2019, the allure of seeing the lake with water, was too strong, she had to return.

Whilst flying to and from the lake, over the arid dry land of William Creek in central South Australia, this view touched Rhonda’s heart, in some ways, more than the lake itself.

Poet, Dorothea Mackellar who wrote “My Country” (I love a sunburnt Country…), sums up perfectly how Rhonda felt, seeing our great land, from the air, at 1000 feet with nothing but the open door of her light plane. See an excerpt from the poem below.

‘Just add water’ is the reoccurring theme for the Extraordinary Exclusives fine art prints.  With just the slightest amount of water, Rhonda has managed to capture how the lake can transform into a visual feast and showcase, nature’s art at its best.

Aerial Specialist

Rhonda regularly flies in Cessna 210’s and a range of helicopters around Australia – yes, with no doors, for these extraordinary experiences, and is looking forward to returning again, to tell the story of the ever-changing landscape, that is the beauty of South Australia’s Lake Eyre.

Size does matter, so Rhonda has carefully curated these images, so they can be best displayed either in large or medium format, either as a fine art print behind glass. With shipping included for all purchases within Australia, Rhonda has taken the enjoyment of purchasing art to being a memorable and easy experience.

Excerpt from the Poem by Dorothea Mackellar ‘My Country’.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!
